The free parking lot at the Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla, which was set up in the aftermath of Sunday's Metro-North train derailment, will be closed tonight as service on the Hudson Line gets back to normal.

County Executive Robert P. Astorino had opened the lot on county property to facilitate the commute of Hudson Line passengers. The Kensico lot offers easy access to the Valhalla train station on the Harlem Line, which was not affected by the accident.

Approximately 820 cars have used the lot, but the number leveled off to 20 today. Commuters and customers of Metro-North should resume their regular transportation routines on Thursday.

"I thank the county departments of Public Safety and Parks for their quick response to come to the assistance of our commuters," Astorino said. "I also once again want to express my sympathies to the families and friends of those killed in this accident, as well as to the many others who were injured."
