Attention veterans, service members – and their families: Come to Westchester County's 6th annual Veterans Appreciation Day and Memorial Day Tribute at Playland, Sunday, May 26.
The event, sponsored by Westchester County, will take place from noon until 4 p.m. Veterans may pick up their wrist bands beginning at 11 a.m. at the Boathouse area located at the far end of the park.
"This is always a great event and a way for us to show our veterans and their families how much we appreciate their sacrifices," said County Executive Robert P. Astorino, who will deliver a tribute in memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice in defense of the United States. That tribute will take place at 12:10 p.m. on the Main Stage.
Prior to that, the Westchester Police Emerald Society Pipe and Drum Corps will perform at the main gate at noon and lead the officials and veterans gathered to the tribute area. The barbecue will be held immediately following the ceremony (at about 12:30 p.m.) in picnic areas 7, 8, 9 and 10.
The barbecue is co-sponsored by Fordham University and the Generoso Pope Foundation.
All Westchester veterans are required to pre-register for this event. Veterans and active duty members and their families, will receive one free parking pass and up to five free ride/entrance bands. Discount ride coupons will be available for additional needs. A valid military and or veteran organization/ VA Health ID card is required.
