Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino on Dec. 17 unveiled a plaque in the county's Graham Hills Park commemorating Leonard "Lenny" Joyner, an FDNY paramedic and Pleasantville native who died in a mountain climbing accident in Colorado in July at the age of 31.
Astorino was joined by Joyner's family, friends and dozens of FDNY and Pleasantville Fire Department colleagues for the dedication ceremony, which took place on a footbridge that Joyner built as an Eagle Scout in 1997.
"Lenny Joyner was one of New York's bravest for six years, and in addition to his regular work assignment at the EMS station on West 23rd Street in Manhattan, he was a volunteer with the Pleasantville Fire Department," Astorino said. "The bridge he built here in Graham Hills was a major undertaking and has proved to be a great enhancement to the park. As a father of three, I often visit the park with my children, and now every time we cross this bridge it will be a nice reminder of Lenny and his service to the community."
Graham Hills Park is a 431-acre county park located on Route 117 in the Town of Mount Pleasant.
