cdbgelmsford3County Executive Robert P. Astorino joined Mayor Robert Williams of Elmsford and other village residents at a recent groundbreaking ceremony of project to rejuvenate the Main Street area.

The Elmsford Streetscape was designed by the county Department of Planning and was paid for in part with federal Community Development Block Grant funds. This project, now in its second phase, includes new curbs, sidewalks, decorative lights, trees, benches, garbage cans, an amenity strip and double headed meters. The Project is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.

"The Main Street in any village or town is the hub of that community," Astorino said. "Westchester County is proud to be part of this effort to keep Elmsford's downtown special."

Astorino noted this particular project might be the last of the CDBG projects for Westchester County because the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is withholding $12 million in CDBG funding to Westchester.
