Dec. 16, 2011 -- A lot of waste is generated around the holiday season. Here are some quick tips on how to manage it all.
- Donate: Keep in mind that many "used but re-uasable" items can probably be donated.
- Recycle special houshold wastes: Old electronics, including televisions, cell phones, and rechargeable batteries and gadgets, should be recycled through a municipal program or at retail locations, such as Best Buy, Staples, Goodwill (computers only) and other retailers.
- Recycle at the curb: You can recycle wrapping paper, cardboard packaging, boxes (free of food particles) and paper with your other recyclable paper at the curb. Ribbons, bows, and boxes with excessive tape should be disposed as garbage. Also, plastic containers coded with a number 1 – 7 (e.g., under five gallons in size; NOT including plastic bags or wrap or any plastics without a number code) can be set out with your normal glass, metal and plastic food and beverage containers.
- Recycle at large retailers: Some clean plastic wrap and bags used for packaging can be recycled along with plastic shopping bags at large grocery and chain retailers.
