You may also call 2-1-1 for non emergency information. Please do not call 9-1-1 except in an emergency. 

  • Disaster Declaration: Westchester is included in recent disaster declarations by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for public assistance aid (to governments and certain non-profits) and for individuals and businesses. Residents and businesses are advised to document any damages with photographs and collect receipts for repairs. Check out the FEMA Web site for information on the process. As of Tuesday, a site had been announced

  • Outages: Residents are reminded to report outages directly to the utilities. Con Ed, (800) 75-CONED; NYSEG electric, (800) 572-1131; NYSEG gas (800) 572-1121. A map of areas that have been affected by power outages is available at Con Edison and NYSEG Web sites. If you lost gas service during the storm, information on how to get service back safely is available.

  • Debris removal: 2-1-1 Hudson Valley is currently filling out request forms for debris removal and clean-up teams. Clean-up teams are on standby and residents can call 2-1-1 if they need assistance with debris removal. 2-1-1 will complete the NYVOAD (New York Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) Mud-Out Request Form.

  • Help for 2-1-1: The 2-1-1 call center, which has handled over 3,500 calls regarding Hurricane Irene and recovery efforts, urgently needs volunteers.. If you can help, call (914) 997-6700 ext. 720.

  • Clean up safety:  The FEMA Web site provides helpful information for cleanups after a storm: Recover and Rebuild and After a Flood: The First Steps. This pdf provides health-related information as well. Oil spill clean-up tips are available from The New York State Department of Health. Tips on guarding against hazards is available from the U.S. Department of Labor.  

  • Insurance claims: If you have homeowner's insurance and sustained any damage, start collecting documents to support any claim, Visit the NYS Insurance Department Web site to learn more about insurance and natural disasters. Flood damage is often not covered under many policies. Tips on hiring home contractors and cleanup services from the Consumer Protection Department are available.
