Sept.14, 2011 -- Residents of Elmsford, Greenburgh, Irvington and the Valhalla Grasslands campus can resume routine water use today. The Westchester County Department of Health had advised residents in these communities, along with Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown, to restrict their water use from Monday evening through this morning. The conservation advisory was issued because the New York City Department of Environmental Protection closed the aqueduct due to impacts from recent storms on the Catskill Aqueduct, which limited water capacity until the aqueduct was reopened this morning.
The water in all these communities was and is safe to drink.
Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown ask their residents to continue to conserve water through noon tomorrow, due to the changing situation at the Catskill Aqueduct. For information on when residents there can resume routine use, go to www.villageofsleepyhollowny.gov , www.tarrytown.gov, watch Verizon Channel 43 or Cablevision Channel 78.
The county health department is also notifying residents where the advisory has been lifted through its reverse-911 telephone system.
