With Irene out of Westchester, County Executive Robert P. Astorino Sunday began assessing the damage the storm brought, as the cleanup effort got underway.
At a news conference Sunday night, he thanked Westchester residents for their continued cooperation and urged them to be patient as the cleanup continues. Many roads remain closed and power lines down, although county buses will resume operation Monday.

All relevant county departments put together response plans. County departments involved include: Emergency Services, Public Safety, Communications, Health, Public Works, Transportation, Information Technology, Senior Programs, Environmental Facilities Social Services and Parks and Recreation.
Even with the worst of the storm over, there are things residents should do:
- Print out a list of important phone numbers.
- If you lost power, call Con Edison or NYS Electric and Gas directly. The phone numbers are: Con Ed power outage or gas and electrical service problems: (800) 75-CONED; NYSEG electricity power outage: (800) 572-1131; NYSEG gas power outage: (800) 572-1121.
- Stay informed – Keep up-to-date on the progress of any storm and the protective actions being recommended by government agencies in response.
- Read up on what to do to be prepared. In non emergencies, you may call 2-1-1.
- Inspect your outside property.
