The new officers, who completed 20 weeks of training at the police academy in Valhalla, received their diplomas during a ceremony at the State University of New York at Purchase.
Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino, Public Safety Commissioner George N. Longworth and District Attorney Janet DiFiore addressed the graduates and wished them well in their careers.
Astorino congratulated the new officers on their hard work and thanked their family members for the support they provided along the way.
"I thank you for raising these young men and women with respect for public service and the rule of law. I thank you for helping them on their journey to this wonderful day," he told the audience of family and friends that packed the Performing Arts Center.
Longworth noted that the academy class had attended the funeral of Poughkeepsie Police Officer John Falcone, who was shot to death in February.
"They stood together as one – should to shoulder with us on that long blue line – as the law enforcement family gathered to bury a Poughkeepsie officer lost in the line of duty," he said. "It was certainly unusual for a recruit class to be reminded so directly of the sacrifice that their newly chosen profession might entail."
