Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino on Tuesday congratulated members of Archbishop Stepinac High School's football team, the Crusaders, on their undefeated season. It was the first time in the school's history that the football team had gone undefeated.   

Coach Mike O'Donnell and 31 of the team's players packed the County Executive's Office, where they were presented with special proclamations. Also in attendance was Bob Hyland, a former New York Giant football player and local restaurateur who started his career playing for the Stepinac Crusaders.

Astorino, who reminisced with teammates about his experience as a sports broadcaster, applauded the team's hard work and dedication.

"Congratulations on an achievement that not only brings pride to Stepinac High School, but to all of Westchester County," Astorino said. "Your team spirit and commitment will continue to help you throughout life and we look forward to your future success."

Deputy County Executive Kevin J. Plunkett, a graduate of Stepinac High School, was particularly excited to congratulate the high school athletes.

"As an alumnus, I am very proud to recognize the achievements of the 2010 football team," said Plunkett. "This team exemplifies the great student athletes that have been a part of Stepinac for more than 60 years."

The Crusaders captured the 2010 Catholic High School AA League title and defeated White Plains High School in the annual Turkey Bowl, compliling a record of 12-0.
