The Department of Environmental Facilities to Conduct a Public Meeting on March 12 at the County Center to Provide Residents with an Opportunity to Offer Opinions on Waste Reduction

Westchester County’s Department of Environmental Facilities (DEF) will be conducting a second public meeting to afford residents the opportunity to provide their thoughts and comments on waste reduction. The meeting is scheduled for March 12, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the County Center in White Plains.

DEF is working with Barton & Loguidice, a consulting firm, on a Waste Reduction Study that will serve as a guide for reducing waste generation and disposal throughout the next decade and beyond. At the meeting, DEF and Barton & Loguidice will discuss the goals of the study and attendees will be provided up to two minutes each to provide their input. Since the meeting time will be limited, those wishing to speak are strongly encouraged to pre-register at https://form.jotform.com/250545680113148.

Those who were unable to attend the first public meeting on February 26 will be given preference to speak at the second meeting. For those who would like to provide their input but are unable to attend, they will have an opportunity to submit written comments after the meeting through Wednesday, March 19 at 5 p.m. at https://form.jotform.com/250485123882156.

In December, DEF released a Waste Reduction Survey for County residents in conjunction with the Waste Reduction Study. That survey is still available at https://arcg.is/GDn8u0 or through the DEF Facebook page.

The study is also seeking input from businesses throughout the County. Owners and managers of commercial businesses located in Westchester can participate in the study by using this link: https://arcg.is/0aGWTW

The Waste Reduction Study was made possible by a Board of Legislators initiative added to the 2024 Refuse Disposal District budget.
