Jenkins said: “Westchester County’s LTAP program is essential not only for new affordable housing developments, but also for preserving Westchester’s existing public housing stock. Public housing accounts for a large majority of low-income households in Westchester, so the financial support and investment in these properties is vital. It is our hope that once these home improvements are made, we will increase the number of affordable units that are available, but may have been left unoccupied due to needed repairs. Our administration stands committed to improving the quality of life for our must income-vulnerable families.”
Westchester County Commissioner of Planning Blanca Lopez said: “The Planning Department is pleased to award $7 million dollars in capital funds to the four public housing authorities to make much needed improvements that will extend the useful life of their properties for low- and moderate-income households. As we strive to increase the number of new affordable housing units, we cannot overlook that preserving current affordable units is also a priority. A wide variety of repairs will be performed that will ultimately benefit over 1,000 households currently residing in public housing.”
