AIRPORT
HISTORY
Westchester County Airport was originally built as a
defense satellite base for New York City. Shortly
following WWII, the Airport became home for an Air
National Guard Unit and in 1947, airlines began the
first scheduled commercial service from White
Plains.
Today, the Airport has earned its reputation among
General Aviation Airports and is noted as having one
of the largest based corporate fleet in the United
States. The 700 acre facility has two intersecting
runways, the longest 6,550 ft. The Airport serves
several commercial service operators and over 400
based aircraft, including helicopters. Passengers
from New York and Connecticut frequent the Airport
for its non-stop commercial services to 21 major
cities. Recently, Westchester County Airport
enplaned and deplaned over 1 million passengers
annually.
In addition to the Airports title as
a regional transportation hub, the 50 major
companies located on the property also serve as an
employment center.
